THERE’S STILL TIME!…

To appreciate audiobooks.

June is Audiobook Appreciation Month. I know, I feel bad about not appreciating audiobooks enough this month too. Luckily there is still a little time left in June.

I know. The fact that the book is making sound into to head phones doesn't make a ton a sense. Deal with it.And if you need help finding an audiobook to show your appreciation for you can always come to the library. We’ve got tons of audio books on CD and PlayAway. Or, if you are looking for something a bit more intangible, you can check out one of our e-resources catalogs and download an e-audiobook directly to your computer or digital device; our OverDrive, Axis 360 and Hoopla! collections all have e-audiobooks to choose from. Go! Appreciate! Before it’s too late!

And as an added bonus, as if you needed any more reasons to check out audiobooks, finishing an audiobook counts as finishing a book for our Summer Reading Program, so don’t forget to fill out your reading slips and bring them in for more chances to win our prize drawings!

“The only thing better than reading a good book is to have someone with a cool voice read you a good book while you are do something that would otherwise be completely monotonous and boring. Audiobooks are the only reason I have any clean dishes in my house.” – Me, just now.

Rules of the Road Class

Does test anxiety have you dreading that trip to the DMV to get your license?RotR  The written test (or computerized test, as the case may be) can be as intimidating as the driving test and nearly tough as waiting in line for your turn to come.

Luckily, the Moline Library can help.  On Wednesday, June 29 from 9:30am to 11:00am an AARP staff member will be at the library to go over the basics, hand out new Illinois Rules of the Road handbooks (also available online) and answer any questions for those that would feel more comfortable with a little refresher course before they take the actual test.

Registration is required, with a maximum of 35 people. To register or for more information give us a call at 309-524-2470 or stop by the reference desk on the second floor of the library.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2016

RFTWIt’s that time of year again…

It’s getting warmer everyday. Kids are out of school, having adventures. A backyard swimming pool is starting to look like a better and better investment even though you know that cleaning it would likely be more trouble than it would be worth, you’d never be able to get the pH balance exactly right and there is a public pool just down the road… And, aside from ill-advised fantasies about pool ownership, absolutely nothing changes for adults other than the fact that they don’t need to take a jacket with them when they leave for work in the morning. It’s all just sun-shining, fresh-cut grass smelling, barbecuing, brilliantly verdant dreariness.

But take heart! Here at the library it’s not all about the kids – a whole lot of it is, in fact, about the kids, just not all of it – and we have something special going on just for adults*; the 2016 Adult Summer Reading Program!

*Special Note for Those with Children: the children’s and young adult departments each have their own summer reading programs as well.

There is no time like the present to start working your way through that to-read list you accumulated over the long winter months. Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and tell us what books you read (by filling out and bringing in reading slips) and you can even win prizes. Just for reading! I know, some of you are going to be reading anyway, so you might as well get something out of it… I mean, beyond the innate satisfaction that broadening one’s horizons through the written word brings, of course. You can sign up online or in person at the library. For those of you that sign up in person, you will receive a coupon for a free library rental (any one thing that normally costs $1 to check out – so, movies and video games – you can check out free of charge) just for signing up. Once you return your first reading slip you’ll get a free book – that’s right; read a book, get a book free! Plus, that reading slip and all subsequent reading slips will earn you a chance at winning the drawing for a prize of your choice at the end of the summer. We have eight $50 gift cards to give away, one from each of the following locations: Best Buy, Exotic Thai, Great Escape Cinemas, Hy-Vee, Java Lab Cafe, Los Agaves, Lowe’s and QC Family Entertainment.

Signing up only takes a minute and it could mean hours of fun and tens of dollars’ worth of prizes. It’s the best deal of the summer!
